The Creator must be weeping….

I watched President Mills from the very moment he was elected as the Head of State of Ghana. The more speeches he gives the more my heart bleeds for mother Ghana. And for those people who are quick to dismiss my article because they are NDC supporters, I assure you that my intentions are solely for the benefit of all Ghanaians and also like to remind my readers I have no political affiliation. President Professor John Atta Mills has given various speeches asking God to intervene and help mother Ghana. Well, I am not against God helping Ghana except, I am angered by Professor Mills and his elite politicians who have bluntly refused to use their beautiful mind that the Almighty God has given them to create a better nation for all. Their laziness and lack of willingness for creativity is of great disturbance to me. I am highly disappointed by President Mills’ lack of vision and the whole Obama “want to be” attitude by constantly delivering not so well written and irrelevant speeches. I question his lack of reasoning and ungratefulness for not thinking like his Creator. The bible says ‘ God created man in his own image’ therefore it is the greatest insult to say the least that these political elites regardless of what party they belong, use the weakness of Ghanaians love for God for their own selfish corrupt political ambitions. These political elites are always willing and happy to show how religious they are however, always clueless and incapable to solve various problems such as poverty, mosquito eradication and drug war.

God gave Solomon wisdom and he became the Wisest man ever lived but for some obscure reasons Professor Mills, despite all his education and the blessings of becoming the leader of Ghana, he consciously or out of stupidity has no clue what to do and he spat on God’s face and says to God well, how about you send manna from heaven then perhaps I can lead and do my duty as head of state. May be I’m being too critical of President Mills because he has only been in office for less than a year. But, surely men with purpose and vision clearly stand out and never in a single breath are they ever over shadowed by their own lack of articulate speeches or spoken words. When Martin Luther King, Kwame Nkrumah and even Barack Obama spoke everybody understood and imagined their vision. However, when President Mills opens his mouth, not even himself understands or believe what he says and by the way, Jerry Rawlings and John Kuffour were worst. Ghana is a nation full of various mineral resources in addition to the finest brains and man power on earth. Yet, all these already wonderful blessings from the creater have deliberately gone to waste and sadly undiscovered. It is with great sadness that Ghanaians adores the West however, what they fail to recognised is that the Western civilisation was built by man who acted like man and not like mashed potatoes. The West’s mineral resources are no close at all to the rich mineral resources floating around the continent of mother Africa. However, these ungrateful leaders live on the richest continent on God’s planet yet the people they govern are the poorest under the beautiful Sun.

Tribalism is a danger to Ghana’s development…

As a kid, I witnessed many political pundits’ debate passionately about NPP and NDC on television. These debates were not simply about which party is best to lead Ghana but also which tribe is the best to lead the nation. Unsurprisingly, it is most likely that an Ashanti man would support NPP and non-Ashanti would support NDC all with great passion. Funny enough even in my old age I still see these debates between ordinary Ghanaians and more so than never, tribe determines which party one will affiliate. I am yet to find a Ghanaian who has not witnessed a political debate being argued without it having tribalism as the sole foundation. The latest hard fought 2008 election is evidence of Ghana’s tribal political democracy. The question is how one can reconcile tribe, politic and democracy to make a better nation for all.

My assessment on all of these tribal democracy and political debates is that each side unconsciously, seems to admit that both NDC and NPP parties have so far failed Ghana. Hence, I waste no time of mine to argue about who has failed Ghana the most and as far as I am concern failure can not be weighed. However, it should be treated as what it is thus, a failure and such it must be frowned upon by patriotic people who in their reasonable minds should seek to argue about getting the best out of their leaders regardless of which party is in power. Therefore, I urge Ghanaians not to be blinded by the fact that any particular leader is from their tribe therefore avoid to criticising them and holding them accountable for the lack of patriotism towards mother Ghana. For it is best to criticise things valuable and important to all than to be silent for the detriment of all Ghanaians. Let not conscious ignorance and unfounded hatred bring out the worst in you to the extent that your brain functions with baseless and unfruitful dangerous arguments. My careful conclusion is that Ghana can go toward a failed state due to tribal biased and ignorance for one can not look at a person’s tribe to assess him or her on their leadership skills.

Let me be clear, I am not by any means suggesting that Ghanaians have always voted on tribal connections nonetheless there is only one evidential exception thus the late Osagyefor Kwame Nkrumah who was voted with overwhelming support by Ghanaians. But the notion I bring forward is that, within these hostile tribal environment that Ghanaians have created means it will be almost impossible for an articulate and wise leader from either one of these tribal political parties to win an election with a huge support from all the various tribal groups in Ghana as a whole. So, to my fellow Ghanaians please do not act with tribal conscious stupidity and hold your politicians accountable only when they are from the ‘other side’. The harsh reality is that whether a leader is Ewe, Fante, Ashanti or Hausa, they are all corrupt and their lack of care for Ghanaians is detrimental to all. Notwithstanding, the awful reality which is that when these elite politicians regardless their party or tribal affiliation are busy stacking up money in Swiss banks, the welfare of any particular tribe does not concern them but rather they have themselves and their immediate family interest in mind.

Ghana a Country without Vision….

Ever since the brutal over throw of Osagyefor Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana is yet to have a government in power who really believes that leading Ghana to become a developed nation among the world’s richest nations is not only possible but necessary. Ghana's political elites appears to know about democracy and sell it to the people, however when it comes to practicing a real democracy, these same elite politicians falls so low disgracefully. The question that Ghanaians should be asking themselves is, have their politicians failed the country consciously or out of ignorance and has Ghanaians themselves failed their nation? Ghanaians are never hesitant to call their politicians corrupt but always fall short in admitting their own contribution to building a corrupt nation. Ghanaians lives in a society where children get admitted into top schools and universities because their parents are rich or “somebody”, people get jobs not based on their merit but because they agreed to sleep with the boss or through family connections, A rich man pays the police to arrest a guy whom he thinks is sleeping with either his wife, girl friend, or daughter, the police and the army who are put on the street to check for bad vehicles receives money to allow dangerous cars to move around on the street without stopping to think that the same vehicles may result in accident killing mass people, Law enforcements who are paid to protect the people receive a bigger sum for not protecting the people who employs them.

Ordinary Ghanaians receives money to allow toxic goods into the country which inevitably will harm the environment and the people, politicians receive money to sell the country out without a blink of an eye. The fact is, the mass majority of Ghanaians are either corrupting or being corrupt to the scale that it has become the norm in the minds of most Ghanaians. When a corrupt system becomes the norm in any society, it blinds the people from having a vision of true prosperity and development for all and the disadvantage is that it creates the selfish vision of making life better only for ones own self. So the painful reality is that, Ghana’s elite politicians have consciously and ignorantly failed the nation which they serve. Nonetheless, Ghanaians themselves via naivety have failed their nation too and my assessment is that, the corruption name calling will not solve Ghana’s problem. However, Ghana has a better chance becoming a developed nation for all if Ghanaians take the initiative to educate themselves.

Ghanaians must educate themselves to gain knowledge of the world which is outside their comfort zone. In other words, acquiring knowledge of this globalized world will open the eyes of Ghanaians to demand better Governance from their leaders. After all, the elite politicians come from the people and are voted into office by the people. Therefore, if the people of Ghana educate themselves well they will eventually raise the bar of accountability and good governance high. Inside the minds of Ghana’s political elites are any things but vision of what mother Ghana ought to be. Therefore, it is right for any reasonable person to find them guilty of the lack of development in the country however; they share this blame with the Ghanaian people whom they govern. The whole system in Ghana signifies the blind man leading the blind person and because “vision is the art of seeing things invisible to the others”, if Ghanaians educate themselves well enough to see things that appears impossible for the elite politicians, they will not elect these corrupt leaders no matter how convincing and neither tribe or education background will entice Ghanaians to vote for them. Hence, I will put the responsibility of Ghana’s social and economic development solely on the shoulders of Ghanaian people because the power of democracy lies within them, even though it may sound harsh.

Malaria Africa's Great Killer...

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), a child dies of malaria every 30 seconds. Malaria is a mosquito- born life threatening disease caused by parasites and it kills about 350–500 million people worldwide each year mostly in sub-Saharan Africa. The phrase “prevention is better than cure” is so widely known yet African governments seem to find it hard to understand what this clearly explanatory phrase really means. I don’t think it requires a genius to figure out that the prevention of malaria is perhaps more cost-effective than treatment of the disease hence, so many deaths of innocent children would reduce if African governments educate the people vigorously on the benefits of clean environment.

Also, the construction of a proper system of draining of wetland which are breeding grounds for mosquitoes, the total prevention of stagnant water or oiling of stagnant water and in all better sanitation in the sub-Sahara African countries who are mostly victim to malaria would just be enough in combating the parasites. Well, my view is that a little bit of common sense approach will go along way in reducing the spread of malaria rather than the well publicized used of Bed nets by footballers and politicians and yet I have not seen a campaign on good sanitation. Malaria was once common in most of Europe and North America where it is no longer endemic and I doubt that they achieved this by using mosquito nets.

Corruption Africa’s poisonous apple…

The African continent since the end of colonial rule has been labelled as the failed continent with corrupt leaders. In reality corruption is an issue in every continent and some Western nations do have dip-rooted corrupt structures in their political systems. For instance in the USA and UK, corruption is replaced by sophisticated names such as “lobbyists” or “Party financial donors”. But whatever word is used to refer to corruption, it depicts the dysfunctional nature of a political or institutional system of any country. However, the level of inexcusable corruption in Africa surpasses any where in the world and the effect of it is undeniable. Most African leaders came from a very poor financial and moral background therefore when they are in a position of leadership they tend to concentrate on their personal financial gains and the lack of moral value gives them a sense of entitlement to do that. Corruption is a formulation which is used in so many ways to destabilize a nation by an organisation or state that pays the bribe and Africans should not forget that corruption was instrumental in overthrowing Africa’s greats such as Kwame Nkrumah and Patrice Lumumba just to mention a few. Nonetheless, corruption the poisonous apple has become a self fulfilling prophesy to greedy minded African leaders who will do anything to get to power and also hold on to power. Whiles in power they spend the money which belongs to the country as if it is their own without any consideration for the people. Disappointingly, what these power and money grabbing leaders fail to do is think beyond the money. Politicians in Africa act with great disregard to their people and pursue acts of bribery and embezzlement without any accountability and the lack of independent organizations to enforce accountability make it easier for politicians and indeed people within higher level of governance.

Subsequently, corruption has crept into the African society as a whole and it has replaced the Africa moral values which edge that working for the good and progressiveness of society as a whole is a good thing for all. Individual Africans in their every day life are either victims or perpetrators of corruption. In other words, corruption has become the standard pattern of behaviour in the African society and in reality selfishness and greed has become the norm to the extent that consciously or unconsciously people are corrupting others and are also being corrupt. I call corruption a poisonous apple because at first instance it looks and taste good but the end is deadly. Corruption is not good for any society and even more dangerously for Africa as it has crippled the continent. Africans are always quick to point fingers at their leaders but what they fail to do is to look within themselves. For corruption to be eradicated, it must start from the root and work it way out to the top of governance because eventually, the people from the top came from the bottom. Therefore, corruption will only become a thing of the past when the African society begins to establish deep rooted values that embrace patriotism and selfless act but which also absolutely frown upon greed and self interest which leads to corruption. Corruption will perish in Africa if well structured institutions are created to hold everyone accountable for their acts or omissions to the society. From laypersons to students and teachers, religious leaders, business personals, the media, the army and the police, lawyers, doctors and nurses and all the way up to Members of parliament, the judiciary, ministers and Head of States, all must bear the cross of eradicating corruption. The various corruption name calling is simply a mediocrity.

Africa’s letter to Obama…

Mr Obama totally swept history under the carpet when he said that “the simple premise is that Africa's future is up to Africans”.

Perhaps out of ignorance, Obama failed to recognised that United State and it’s European counterparts have always been the main perpetrators and supporters of all coup in Africa, Latin America and else where in the world. And these coups are made possible because of greed and the mighty power of the West which automatically make it impossible for any country in Africa to resist their influence. Hence the notion expressed by Obama that Africa’s future is up to Africa is not true. More closely to the truth is that, if our African ancestors had invented gun before the European got to our shore, history would have been different. Evidently, leaders such as Dr. Osagyefor Kwame Nkrumah and President Patrice Lumumba of Congo who were willing and ready to resist neo-colonialism were overthrown by coup instrumented by United State and its Europeans allies in fever of corrupt leaders that were willing to sell their land because of greed.

Obama stated that “Opportunity won't come from any other place, though — it must come from the decisions that you make, the things that you do, and the hope that you hold in your hearts”.

If the Western powers allow Africa leaders to make their decision without a threat then Africa will surely develop. His comment is absolutely hypocritical and bullocks because the fact remains that, the future of Africa is up to United State and European super powers and the moment Africa starts to choose its leaders without the interference of the West, African leaders will feel that they are accountable and loyal only to the people of Africa therefore will be free to lead. There are so many corrupt and undemocratic leaders in Africa right now who are supported by the USA even as President Obama spoke in Ghana. Presidents such as Hosni Mubarak of Egypt and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda both have somehow managed to convince the West that the constant violation of human rights laws and also being in power for over 20 years is democratic. Obama has no authority under the African sun to turn around and criticised some African leaders just because they turn to china and elsewhere for partnership. Obama condemned Mugabe because he is fighting to get the land back to his people as he promised them before he attained independence for Zimbabwe.

President Obama is so wrong when he commented that, “it is easy to point fingers, and to pin the blame for these problems on others. Yes, a colonial map that made little sense bred conflict, and the West has often approached Africa as a patron, rather than a partner. But the West is not responsible for the destruction of the Zimbabwean economy over the last decade.”

Evidently, Africa’s problem was created by the West and still its development is being hampered by the West. Obama should clear the mess that the West has created for a long time in Africa before pointing fingers at the very so called corrupt leaders that his country and the West support. His views are deceptive because the West on one hand is telling Africa to be democratic and on the other hand they are twisting the hands of African leaders for their own benefit which consequently becomes a detriment to Africa.

President Obama said “Countries like Kenya, which had a per capita economy larger than South Korea's when I was born, have been badly outpaced”.

Well, I think President Obama should go back to read his history books because when he was born Kenya was still under colonial rule therefore unless Obama is suggestion that Africa will only be better under colonial rule then I'm oblivious what his comment means. But whatever it is, the Colonial masters only left the political office to the Nubian man but never did they intended to leave the political and economical power to them. They made sure that the economy in particular was never transferred before they cleared the Banks. And also in relation to trade, prices of mineral resource were determined by the colonial masters and Agriculture produce exported to the West was made possible only to the white farmers leaving in Africa. The Awful truth remains that even now Africa is not free politically and economically.

However, Obama contradicted himself when said that “In his life, colonialism wasn't simply the creation of unnatural borders or unfair terms of trade — it was something experienced personally, day after day, year after year.” I agree and the truth is that, without economic freedom, Africa is not free therefore the current unfair trade designed by his country and Europeans are to keep Africa dependant on its colonial masters.

The first African American president of United State betrayed mother Africa and all those who trusted him to do good to the continent when he said this “And let me be clear: our Africa Command is focused not on establishing a foothold in the continent, but on confronting these common challenges to advance the security of America, Africa and the world”.

This is simply utter bullocks because if Obama cared just a little bit, he would know that the Africom which was introduced by Bush and Cheney who are the most evil minded, selfish people I have ever seen: can not and will not ever be good for Ghana and Africa unless Obama can guarantee Africa that He intends to stay As President of United State for eternity. Ghanaians should bear in mind that the next President of United State will be a Whiteman and possibly a Reagan republican therefore it doesn’t require a genius to figure out that, their in-depth thought about Africa is not favourable to Africans.

President Barack Hussein Obama referred to what Martin Luther King said during his visit to Ghana’s Independence celebrating where Dr. King said that, “It renews my conviction in the ultimate triumph of justice”

This is disrespectful and utter bullocks because obama’s entire speech suggested that he is not siding with justice for Africa hence Obama has defied Dr. King's fight for justice . However, I do agree with Mr. Obama on one thing when he said that “For just as it is important to emerge from the control of another nation, it is even more important to build one's own.” Nonetheless, my hope is that President Obama adopts policies which deter any detrimental interference in Africa by United State and Europe. As Nkrumah said, “The best way of learning to be an independent sovereign state is to be an independent sovereign state”.

Obama rewards Ghana…

Before President Obama and his entourage arrived at the coast of Ghana, the media constantly referred to his visit as a symbolic gesture or a reward for Ghana’s so called “Democracy”. This brings up the question, is Ghana a sovereign country or the 52nd State of United State of America. How Ghana and its leaders have stoop too low as feeling the need to be rewarded by United State for carrying out their constitutional obligations is beyond understanding and quietly frankly extremely shameful. I watched the speech by President John Atta Mills with sadness and disbelieve. The message of his speech was too disgraceful and he spoke as if he was begging the President of United State Barack Obama’s permission to do the things Ghanaians expects their Head of State to do. He spoke as if he is the son asking Mr. Obama the father permission to take care of his children, the Ghanaian people. Our African ancestors who suffered slavery and colonisation must be weeping in their graves. I can not comprehend the thought behind his speech but what ever that may be, it signified how imbalance the talk between him and President Obama would be.

For a fact, the conversation will not be based on mutual respect but sadly, it will rather be a conversation where Obama instructs President Mills to sign on to the construction of Africom and also tell him which company to give the oil contract to. President Mills has further revealed himself that he lacks vision for Ghana and worst of all he is an elite vampire who preys and feeds on his own people for the benefit of the West. However, Obama spoke with arrogance and lacked knowledge of Africa and its people even though he keeps convincing himself that he is being tough on the continent but many people will differ on such notion. Also, Obama failed to acknowledge the CIA’s influence in overthrowing the most prominent leader and indeed one of the founding fathers of the Africa as we see today Osagyefor Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Worst of all, he showed no emotional connection with the African continent though he repeated and emphasised his paternal heritage to Africa. On the hand, President Clinton was decorated with Kenta and shown his appreciation yet Obama wore no Kenta and showed no admiration toward the Ghanaian culture

He deliberately and disrespectfully referred to Zimbabwe yet made no reference either to colonisation, land grabbing, brutality, the cause of wars and poverty by the West in Africa. However, Obama’s speech sounded like he was the leader of Ghana putting Ghana first but than again that was just a speech without substance and his speech is exactly what I would expect from President G W Bush or any other President of United State. Nonetheless, he can be forgiven because he is after all the President of United State and he like all other President before him, his interest is not and will not be with the African people. In brief, he came as a wolf covered in sheep’s skin. Therefore, the focus was on President Mills to show his leadership skills and vision for his country Ghana and he failed them miserably. If my assessment is correct than the implication for his failure will be too detrimental to Ghanaians including the unborn generations. Sincerely, I hope that the speech by Mills was just a mistake by his speech writer and actually not his thought therefore he would in reality, conduct business with United State as partners with mutual respect.

Obama hates Africa…

I watched President Obama’s interview with allafrica with dismay and soreness. Barack Obama for the first time looks like he had no clue of what he was saying and appears like he was reading a script with no understanding of the African Continent and its people. When he spoke with Middle East people he had a precise idea and message he wanted to send out but sadly the same can not be said about Africa in his interview. It was so bizarre to the extent that the journalist who interviewed him kept asking him about his aim and legacy for the continent but he had no concrete responds. More insulting he kept on referring to the Continent as "the African people". President Obama wants more aid and a partnership with Africa yet failed to underline what sort of partnership and worst of all he showed he does not care about the detriment aid causes to the continent. Evidently, aid to Africa has made the poor poorer and has contributed significantly to corruption as well as hampering the development of the continent. In the era where many are calling for less aid and more investments I would have thought that Obama would make the idea of investment as the main purpose and vision for Africa. He said he is not a believer in excuses and the Zimbabwe economy was not destroyed by the west: again depicting his lack of knowledge or disregard for Zimbabwean people who just wants a piece of their land which rightly belong to them.

This is sad coming from a man who call’s himself African American and yet he refers to Africans as “the African people”. Obama totally ignores and snubs the pain that Africa has been put through by the west without any acknowledgement of the fact that most African dictators are supported by the West. He completely rejected the undeniable unwavering support by the West to leaders such as Mwai Kibaki, late President Bongo and Mugabe (that is before he wanted his land) which has contributed to the lack of democratic governance in Africa. He portrays Africa in the darkest light as if I’m watching Joe Biden or Sarah Palin talk about Africa. Obama’s interview has embolden the West who preys and keep preying on the continent. Nonetheless, I’m hopeful that the new generation of African would see the West for what they really are whether they come as a wolf covered in the sheep’s skin or as a vulture painted white looking like a dove. President George W. Bush is the true friend of Africa as weird as it may sound it is the fact. Africa should weep and not rejoice for Obama's visit. His visit to Africa is just a symbolic visit lacking respect, dignity, friendship or vision for the continent. President Obama spat on Mother Africa just to put it mildly. May God have mercy on Africa, the most Beautiful and the richest continent in God’s universe and save it from the illusory aim of the West.

Ghana on sale for $5000...

According to Ghanaweb on Tuesday, Hon. P.C. Appiah-Ofori, the MP for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa has alleged that members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party were ordered by President Kuffour to vote for the approval for the sale of Ghana Telecom to Vodafone. In his testimony before the inter-ministerial committee, Hon. P.C. Appiah-Ofori revealed that each Member of Parliament for NPP than received $5000 which came directly from President Kuffour’s office. The article on Ghanaweb appears to me that Hon. P.C. Appiah-Ofori is a man who is genuinely concern about level of unpatriotic act by the Kuffour Government and MPs. However, it failed to reveal if P.C. Appiah-Ofori voted for the sale and indeed if he was also influence by $5000 since he represents the NPP in Parliament. Notwithstanding, I am totally appalled but not surprise by the actions of those MPs and President Kuffour.

However, the thought of corruption at Presidential level is disastrous to any nation bearing in mind that the lives of over 23.000.000 Ghanaians depend on the President. The duty of President John Kuffour and his NPP government for the eight years that they were in power were, to protect the well-being of all Ghanaians and safeguard the independence and territorial integrity as well as to take the significant steps to eradicate corrupt practices and the abuse of power. I am extremely disappointed to say the least that the NPP government failed the Ghanaian people and sold their trust and their property for a mere disgraceful amount of $5000 to a foreign entity. This is treason at the level of merciless and therefore deserving of death if found guilty. Even though, I normally do not agree with death penalty but with this issue I can not think of any punishment worthy of such act. Nkrumah and all those Kings and Queens including people who were shipped for slavery must be weeping in their graves. I fear for the beautiful nation of Ghana when the oil starts pumping, bearing in mind this level of corrupting and treason. May the Almighty God help Ghana the gate way to Africa.

The Madness of Ghanaian People

Markets in Ghana have been flooded with cheap imported food such as chicken, fish, rice and sugar from the European Union, United States and china. Almost one third of the EU frozen chicken exports to Africa end up in Ghana. Households, restaurants and supermarkets in Ghana are filled with imported food and yet the same food products are produced by hard working Ghanaian farmers. But for some absurd reasons, Ghanaians and their Governments insist on making the foreign imported food their daily food consumption which subsequently destroys the Ghanaian farmers’ way of living and also endangers Ghana's economy. Why Ghanaians prefer these fatty genetic modified chicken parts which come in packages without labels to indicate their nutrition values is beyond human reasoning.

Bluntly refusing to buy our own products is the saddest and the madness thing ever heard of in human history. During the period of Ghana Empire which existed between 790-1076, people came from afar just to trade in Ghana and it was reported that the Empire could feed an army of 200, 000 soldiers. Historically, Ghanaian is predominately farmers and has always rallied on agriculture as source of living: hence agriculture is embedded in Ghana culture. But today Ghana has stoop so low by rejecting its own farm products which subsequently means rejection of the Ghanaian tradition. Ghanaian products are safe and healthy even to the extent that when exported to the west it is classified as organic products which are ridiculously expensive in the rich countries. Yet Ghanaians are comfortable consuming food products which are genetic modified and the production processes can not be verified by individual Ghanaian as fit to eat. Bearing in mind the attitude of the west when it comes to exporting unhealthy stuff to Africa, the last thing on the mind of any reasonable human being in Africa is to trust food stuff exported to Africa from Europe.

Painfully, Ghana governments use globalization as the excuse which obviously indicates their lack of wisdom, intellect and patriotism. The Ghana government either the NPP or the current NDC have failed due to ignorance to understand that the concept of globalization was created to advance the interest and the economy of the richer nation and never in doubt was it for the interest of African nations. Ghanaians should ask themselves this question, will European Union allow Ghana chicken to flood the EU countries without an alarm to stop that immediately?

“Globalization is a double-edge sword: a powerful vehicle that raises economic growth, spreads new technology, and increases living standards in rich and poor countries alike, but also an immensely controversial process that assaults national sovereignty, erodes local culture and tradition, and threatens economic and social stability” - Robert J. Samuels, political economist.

Ghana should stop threading and lead…

President John Kuffour contributed a little to the development of Ghana. His most obvious achievements are the introduction of a respectable Ghanaian currency and National Health Insurance Scheme as well as the building of KATH Accident and Emergency Unit. He was described by the West as a decent guy whom they could engage with (which is also translated as a Muppet to ride on). However, credit to him for not clinging to power and also for allowing a smooth transition of power to the current NDC government. Nonetheless, despite all his achievements though debatable, President Kuffour and his government lacked enormous vision for the country and the bizarre thing is that they stayed in power for eight good years but during all those time they still did not develop a credible vision for mother Ghana let alone attaining their campaign objectives.

Unfortunately, so far the Mills government has also fallen into the traps of lack of vision and corruption name calling of the previous government. Many Africans especially Ghanaians adore and appreciate the beauty of Dubai but what they fail to do is to put pressure on their Government to create a Dubai in Ghana. Dubai did not just drop from heaven and fell on the desert. But rather, it was created out of a vision. The Governments of United Emirate and these Middle East rich states had a vision based on developing the lives of their people. They realised that the only way to gain respect of the developed nations is to build a well crafted and developed country where the people who live within it are economically and educationally capable to compete in the globalised world. Kwame Nkrumah had that vision over fifty years ago and Ghana is yet to understand his vision. Our Government can do more with our own money if they aim just a little bit higher with a precise vision. Begging for money will only lead Ghana to hell.

Michael Jackson Tribute…

It is sad to announce that the King of Pop Michael Jackson was pronounced dead at UCLA hospital in Los Angeles yesterday 25th June 2009. I like Michael and I’m yet to find any body that did not know any of his songs and did not like him. As the seventh child of the Jackson family, Michael has been singing since a child and he debuted on the professional music scene at the age of 11 as a member of The Jackson Five. His love, loyalty and mental resilient made him formidable in the music industry. He was an artist, entertainer, a humanitarian, a family man and a genius to say the least. Michael loved all people no matter what race, religion or creed. He was a true gentleman and a good human being. Michael Jackson is indeed the King of Pop simply undisputed. Thriller, Earth song, Bad, Billie Jean, Beat It, Scream, Black and White are my best songs by the King of Pop. God bless his soul….

Ghana the toxic dumping site of electronics…

It is hard to comprehend why Ghana ended up being a dumping ground for electronic wastes. A town called Agbobgloshie in the capital of Ghana is used as the dumping site for computer wastes of countries such as Britain, Germany, Korea, Switzerland and the Netherlands. There is no doubt that the toxic chemicals found in electronic waste are dangerous and harmful to the people and the environment. Yet these toxic materials are some how allowed in the country. Last year, a Greenpeace investigation into the matter found phthalates in the soil samples collected from the ground in Agbobgloshie dumping site. According to the Scientists who were part of the investigation, Phthalates causes birth defects and cancer.

Ghana Environmental Protection Agency duty is to protect and improve the environment but it has failed their duty to react to such a pollution incident. The agency proclaims that “It's our job to make sure that air, land and water are looked after by everyone in today's society, so that tomorrow's generations inherit a cleaner, healthier world”. However, their failure to prevent the toxic chemicals of electronic waste into Ghana amounts to a betrayal and an act of treason to the nation.

The worst act of treason was committed by the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority for allowing the Toxic items into Ghana. Unfortunately, no one has been held accountable for such a dangerous act and it is scary to even contemplate that these toxics chemicals are still making their way to Ghana. I hope more people will be aware of these atrocities which are being committed against the next generations and fight to put an end to it. The insane part of all these is that it took an outside organisation such as the Greenpeace to alert us all whiles our leaders sleep and snore themselves out to the detriment of the Ghanaian people. God Bless Ghana.

President Mills is a dreadful leader…

The excuse that I hear is that it is too early to judge President Mills because he has only been in office for six months but I reject such excuse. So far he has not shown any leadership qualities and all he keeps doing is ranting around preaching about values, responsibility, unity and nation building. And in between all these, petrol prices are on the rise, he allows his party to spend ridiculous amount of Ghanaians money on lavish party whiles a member of his government had his first taste of the corruption syrup, not forgetting the recent approval of US$ 50,000 on car “loan” for members of Parliament. President Mill has not done anything that suggests that he has regards for the pain and suffering of the Ghanaian people. Worst of all, it appears that he is leading the nation based on some guideline from a book which depicts his lack of vision for the nation. However, Mills has been too good and very active on making life difficult for the previous government particularly the former President John Kuffour which also epitomizes his lack of intellect.

In contrast, under Kwame Nkrumah’s six years leadership, Ghana became a republic and created a new constitution as well as achieving a remarkable project of building the nation which we see today. He built roads, bridges, schools, railways, hospitals and among other things he did for mother Ghana in such a short space of time. Unfortunately, Ghana is yet to find another true leader who has vision just like the Great Osagyefor Kwame Nkrumah. My hope is that, this current generation of Ghanaians who have had the opportunity to witness the election of the first African American President would be inspired to take up the cross of leading Ghana in to the dream land of Nkrumah, where the new Africa is strong economically and industrialized to compete in this 21st century globalised world. I believe Nkrumah set the stage for Africa to be successful but the baton is yet to be pass on to the right generation.

Ghana President Preaches Godly Values…

President Mills once again stressed the need for Godly values in building a better Ghana on Tuesday. He seems to suggest that only Christian values would help unite the nation for the benefit of all. I find it very absurd to hear him constantly referring to God in such manner whiles he fills his government with bunch of corrupt people not forgetting his best buddy the murderer former President JJ Rawlings who massacred Acheampong, together with two other former Heads of State Gen. Afrifa and Gen. Akuffo among others. As they say “If Parents want their children to change they have to change themselves”. I think President Mills should start having the Godly values conversations with his corrupt and ungodly Politicians and the rest of as will definitely follow.

Obama’s agenda…

I hear of this so called historical visit to Ghana by the President of United State Barack Hussein Obama but the last time I checked he has already been to Africa that is Egypt and this nonsense of the first visit to sub-Saharan African has to stop. Sub-Saharan, North Africa, Southern Africa is all Africa as far as I’m concern. All these terms are used to further divide the Africans and funny enough we seem to promote such division even further. This has to stop and we Africans should start to think bigger and not shrink our imaginations. By the way, my real concern is to know Obama’s agenda behind this visit to Ghana. His visit to Egypt was clearly enough and yet I’m left wondering about his main purpose behind the visit to Ghana which is clearly publicized as historic visit but it does not make sense because he is not the first American president to make it to the shore of Gold coast (Ghana).

My hope is that, President Mills will think bigger and deal with Obama not as the son of Africa which mother nature as made it obvious but as the President of United State of America and the leader of the so called “Free world”. I so hope that he has not come to persuade President Mills with his undeniable Charisma and Articulation to have a Military base in Ghana or for the USA to extract Ghana’s oil. But I fear that Atta Mills will simply smile and sign the deal for a military base and beg the USA to extract Ghana’s oil and if that happens, Ghana is doomed. My fears are further exacerbated by the incompetent nature of governance in Africa and President Prof. Atta Mills is yet to do anything that will make him stand out of such bad documentation of governance in Africa. Dr. Osagyefor Kwame Nkrumah had vision and he fulfilled some of his hopes and laid down a foundation for Ghana and Africa. President Mills has enough time to create a vision for Ghana and when he finds himself with Obama only, I urge him to think of that vision and if he does that he will not send Ghana to its destruction. I wish him all the best for Ghana’s sake and I hope President Mills takes Ghana Forward. As Dr. Osagyefor Kwame Nkrumah said, "We face neither East nor west; we face forward".

The Oil Curse goes round…..

The discovery of oil is customarily seen as a symbol of hope for poorer nations to experience wealth and economic growth. One can not deny the obvious development in the oil rich nations such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Libya. There is no doubt that the rapid development and wealth of these nations are purely based on oil. However, African countries such as Nigeria, Chad, Sudan and Angola have only experience the curse of oil rather than the blessings of oil discovery. The presence of oil in these developing countries has made life worse and unbearable for most of the people who live there mostly the poorest people are the obvious victims and unemployment and financial hardship increases not decreases. Somehow it looks as if the discovery of oil is designed to be a blessing to a few and the rest are rewarded with the curse of oil.

The devastating harm that oil has caused the developing nations is so great to amount to a conspiracy to keep the poorer nations poor and the rich nations richer. Chad has a source of oil wealth but also the oil has fuelled fighting in Chad and not surprisingly the living standards are some of the lowest in the world. The Niger Delta is home to about 27 million Nigerians who have experience one of the worst injustice and environmental distraction in the history of man kind, their livelihood as fishing and farming community has been almost eradicated. Oil has been extracted from the Niger delta region since 1975 and it has made Nigeria Africa’s biggest producer of petroleum. Foreign oil companies have extracted hundreds of millions of barrels of oil and have pocketed hundreds of trillions of dollars at the expense of the people of Nigel delta whom so far have not benefited from the oil exploration in their community. When desperation forces them to result to violence in an attempt to gain a reasonable standard of living, their corrupt government seeks help from Britain in “Clamping them down” what ever that means. The curse of oil among other resources such as diamond contributed significantly to a long civil war in Angola. The painful stories of people all over African who continue to suffer the curse of oil should not be ignored and my hope is that Ghana listens to their stories and learns from it. The finance minister of Ghana Mr. Kwabena Duffuor seems to think that Ghana’s “oil will be a blessing and not a curse.” I so hope he is proven right.

Stop in the name of God…

Why is it that in all Ghanaian movies the police are always seen to be beating up mere suspects just for the so called “confession?” The most annoying aspect of it all is that they beat up men and women with authority and behave as if it is the only way they know how to investigate a crime. Such behaviour is not fictional it is the reality. The Ghanaian society is such that the police serve the rich and the poor are always left at the mercy of God Almighty. What the rich man says is the truth and a rich man can take a policeman in his BMW X3 model to arrest a man and beat him up for absolute no reason or at times some bizarre accusation such as he is going out with my daughter or I think he stole my money, this is such a disgrace. The Ghanaian society is such that good personality is based on how much money a person has or how often a person attends church services and such people are more often the worst creatures of the devil himself. Such notion of depicting the rich and the so called pastors and church goes to good personality or purity is damaging the society in the sense that it is further dividing the society in the have( Good ones) and the Have not’s ( bad ones). The only time a poor person is considered to posses a good character is when he has the “humble character” thus a Muppet and the worshipper to the “Good ones”. No one dares to challenge such structure.

Unfortunately, the political system is seriously affected by our divisive way of thinking in the sense that an Ashanti man is likely to see an NPP candidate as possessing a good character. Such description is not purely base on policies but merely for the fact that he trusts an Ashanti man to lead the country rather than a Fante or ewe or Hausa man whom are also likely to join the NDC. The social system is based on stereotype. People tend to fear those who are not like us and label them in a box which they are likely never going to break out off such box. I watch the 2008 general election with disgust with Nana Akuffo Addo and his gang trying their best to divide the country even further and thank GOD they did not succeed. But not to single out a sector of the society, the truth is that all Ghanaian are guilty in such divide, We all have contributed to the various division based on wealth, tribes, language, religion, skin colour and the list goes on and on. This has to stop because stereotyping is nothing but a detriment to the society. That is why we have pastors, rich people and all the political blood suckers so freely chopping bodies apart for their own evil mission and the sad aspect of it all is that we the society as a whole have contributed to the success of their mission by going along with the stereotype as we place ourselves in such divisive boxes consciously or unconsciously.

I hope that ordinary people will stand up against the injustice of the police arresting people and beating them up anyhow. It is my hope for a Ghanaian society where the people do have humility enough not to beat up thieves and burn them with petrol and tyres and brag about it. Thieves are human beings and every life is precious therefore should be treated with dignity by allowing them to have their day in court. Thou shall not kill and Love you neighbours as yourself, this quote are well known in our Ghanaian society yet it is sad that our conducts are so opposite to these principles. The Article 5(12) of Ghanaian constitution gives Fundamental human rights and Freedom and state that, (2) a person who is arrested, restricted or detained shall be informed immediately, in a language that he understands, of the reasons for his arrest, restriction or detention and of his right to a lawyer of his choice. The constitution clearly protect individual human rights and our motto freedom and justice could not have express such rights clearly enough. Every Ghanaian owns a duty to respect and implement all rights established under the constitution but my question is that is the government doing enough to educate people of their fundamental rights? Well my view is that if they did so their mission to corrupt the nation will not succeed, God Bless Ghana…

Ghana did not learn…..

15th century ago, the British established a colony, Gold Coast in 1874 and what followed is simply too unbearably to explained. The activities of the slave trade and colonization saw most or all our prominent chiefs exported to the unknown, well the rest is history. God was never asleep and so he sent our Mosses Dr. Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah and his buddies who liberated the Gold Coast and achieved independence from the United Kingdom in 1957, becoming the first Sub-Saharan African nation to do so. The name Ghana was chosen for the new nation to reflect the ancient Empire of Ghana which once extended throughout much of Western Africa.

Now, I would like to think that Ghana is a sovereign nation still having in mind the experience and the knowledge of our unbearable over 200 years old history. And if I am not getting too ahead of myself, I would still like to hope that our leaders are not too damn, selfish and short sighted to once again act too kind and give a piece of land for the USA to settle on along with all the nuclear bomb, missiles, aids virus and God only knows what, and all in the name of military base. For goodness sake, why is a country such as Ghana who pride itself of being neutral, peaceful and God fearing give thought or even contemplate such a suicidal attempt? I can give a million reasons why the idea of setting a military base in Ghana by USA is simply disastrous and simply putting the unborn generation into neo-colonial rule.

If America goes to war with China or Russian and strikes any one of this country from their base in Ghana, where does President Mills in his professorial mind thinks that China or Russia would retaliate to? New York or Ghana? There are so many scenarios that a person who have not got a master degree or be a scientist or be glibly facile to create in order to draw the clever conclusion that the idea of a military base is stupid. The people of Ghana must not let such thing happen and no amount of money can be acceptable in selling our land and the unborn generation into another clearly foreseeable future of terror under the powerful weapons and missiles of the USA army not forgetting the environmental pollution it would create. Please, in the name of God and for our ancestors who fought and laid down their life to give our land back to us, don’t allow USA military base, China, Russia UK, Aliens from another planet we are yet to discover military base in Ghana. God bless our souls.

Corruption name calling…

Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang again criticised the NPP government for being corrupt and also for abusing power. This game of corruption name calling has to stop. As far as I’m concern the whole system of government is corrupt therefore anybody who occupiers or operate within such system of government is corrupt including those who believe in it. This western adopted style of system which is base on western traditional values is 360° opposite from our true ‘n’ true core traditional African values which are based on serving the community we live in and where Kings lead by example.

Our kings went to war to die for us and the fact of they being born as royals, their life style and entire being had to depict true leadership based on care for the people whom they serve. The African traditional way of government was so democratic that a king can easily be overthrown just by the removal of his shoes, and mostly their removal are based on an immoral way of ruling or simply unfair , unjust and unconscionable method of ruling.

Now, I am by no means suggesting we should go back in time to assume all our traditional way of life. But, the logic is that our modern system of government should be base on our true ‘n’ true traditional values and within it should we develop ourselves to meet the modern world. The fatal mistake we have done so far is to adopt the system of government which was used to suppress and oppress us. Yet, we have no shame but simply talk about such system as if we have a clue of what that system actually was created for and we brag about the so called "2008 democratic election" seemingly begging to receive a reward from the west for a job well done in applying their democratic system of rule. I believe that sooner than later, a new generation of Africans will go back and claim the best bit of our culture, change our way of thinking and shape a better future of governance which is base on fair, just and consciousness traditional values.
